Bring the apocalypse to your enemies on your fiery steed and master the deliverer of chaos and destruction with Dota 2 Chaos Knight Guide
When you hear thundering hoofs, know that the horseman of chaos is coming on his black horse Armageddon. The bringer of destruction has only one goal, to extinguish the Light in every corner of the world.

Chaos Knight (CK) is relatively easy to play, as his abilities are pretty self-explanatory and require little time or micromanagement to use effectively. His abilities are also quite powerful, making him dependent on farm to make full use of them. His ability to disable and draw an enemy Hero, annihilating them with his heavy illusions, makes him formidable to face alone. With several items of damage taken, CK brings confusion and utter chaos to the enemy ranks.

Dota 2 Chaos Knight Guide – Tips
Chaos Knight is capable of gunning down single targets with his powerful punches while pulling them helplessly into his multiple illusions. Disabling and damaging them from afar with his Chaos Bolt, the hellfire knight brings chaos to the world by summoning 3 of his illusions to confuse the enemy. Opening a portal through space-time, CK pulls himself and his enemies closer to the Reality Rift, bringing them into the deadly embrace of his multiple images. With mighty blows of chaos, he tears his foe apart with chaotic fury. No one can endure the Knights of Chaos and Armageddon, the bringers of doom and destruction.
CK is usually played as a Carry in safelane, usually paired with a lane support. Thanks to his skill set, he can often create opportunities for a kill in the lane. Especially when Chaos Bolt and Reality Rift are maxed out first, the core and stun can be enough to take down almost any opponent. He’s also one of the few heroes that doesn’t need his ultimate leveled until later. As long as Chaos Knight is aggressive in lane, but also focuses on his last hits and negations, he will soon have enough items to have a high mid-game impact.
Farming is essential for our Hell Knight, especially items that give him strength and raw damage. Additionally, any item that increases his attack speed is also preferred. As expected, any way to gain more illusions benefits CK, as illusions are also included in every Reality Rift engagement. Remember to focus below disabled cores or supports that are too close, as your incredible damage from Chaos Strike and Phantasm can quickly melt any enemy. Once you’ve farmed your items, focus on teamfights and lane pushing, and with your illusion army, you won’t have a hard time doing that.

How to play Chaos Knight
Let’s get on our horse and ride along with the Chaos Knight on his mission to extinguish the “Light” by learning to use it to its fullest with this short guide.
Starter items
Start your lane with a Tango and a Healing Salve for some HP regeneration. As a melee Hero, you can benefit from a Quelling Blade for better last hits and negations.
Having a mango or two with you would ensure you can throw the Chaos Bolts or Reality Rifts needed to secure a lane kill.
Early game
For some cheap attributes, getting a Bracer and a Magic Ward is a good idea, especially with the latter giving you bursts of HP and Mana against tough and spamming lane opponents. Getting a Boots of Speed is also a good choice for a Hero with high movement speed, allowing you to close gaps faster or run to safety when caught.
You’ll spend most of your early game farming and trying to get kills in lane, so saving Gold to buy an Armlet of Mordiggian is the most cost-effective solution. Most CK players choose this item, as it gives large amounts of Force, which even transfers to Chaos Knight’s Phantasm illusions.
Middle of the game
You have low attack speed, so getting a Power Treads and an Echo Saber are the best choices, especially since they both allow you to attack faster and give you bonus Strength. Mana regeneration from Echo Saber also helps your low Mana pool.
If you’re struggling to survive spell damage or disable, picking up a Black King bar is your best bet, giving you more strength and spell immunity. However, your illusions will be easier to spot. Finally, giving Aghanim’s Shard is also a powerful item in CK, as it allows you to create a Phantasm illusion without casting spells during minor engagements.
Late game
The late game is where you reign, thanks to your ghost illusions. If you’re looking for surprise starts, picking up a Dagger Blink or Shadow Blade/Silver Edge can ensure you catch your enemy off guard. If you want more limited abilities to help you, you can get a Heaven’s Halberd, Abyssal Blade, or a Bloodthorn, which will help you neutralize your target faster.
If you have stamina issues, items like Heart of Tarrasque, Satanic or Eye of Skadi will give you bonus attributes to last longer in teamfights. Taking a Manta style can create more illusions and breakaway shells without discarding your Phantom. Finally, an Assault Cuirass is a good choice in CK, as the atmosphere will benefit not only you and your team, but also your illusions.
Dota 2 Chaos Knight Counters
Here is a list of Heroes that take advantage of the Chaos Knight army and can counter it effectively throughout the game.
- ax – His Berserker’s Summon blocks Chaos Knight and his illusions, even with BKB. Additionally, he can easily clear illusions with Counter Helix and Blade Mail.
- Groundbreaking – His Echo Slam can deal devastating damage to CK and his ghosts and can stun him for a time blocked with Fissure and Aftershock.
- sorceress – Her invulnerability allows her to accompany Chaos Knight, as it greatly slows down the animation and attack speed of any attacker. Her thrust also deals double damage to illusions.
- Winter Wyvern – Her Cold Embrace can protect any of her allies pulled from the Reality Rift and her Splinter Blast can help her find the true CK in a group. Finally, her Curse of Winter can destroy anyone she sees as targets, forcing Chaos Knight and his illusion to attack and kill them.
