There could be many big names joining the sound Invincible for its upcoming second season, but creator Robert Kirkman is a little disappointed it didn’t land a particularly popular star.
At San Diego Comic-Con, according to ABC, Kirkman was in attendance for one Invincible panel where he revealed some new details about the upcoming episodes. Among the announcements came several new cast members revealed for Season 2, bringing names such as Ben Schwartz (Sonic the Hedgehog), Daveed Diggs (The Little Mermaid), Chloe Bennet (Agents of SHIELD), Peter Cullen (transformer), and Rhea Seehorn (Better call Saul). During the panel, Kirkman noted how comedian Connor O’Malley turned down a voice role in Season 2, joking that fans should harass him on social media.
From there, Kirkman revealed that someone else the team had offered a role to had declined. Kirkman says he probably shouldn’t reveal who he is, but for the sake of Comic-Con attendees, he’s going to go ahead and do it. From there, Kirkman stated that Bryan Cranston had been offered a role for every season, including the next two seasons. However, as Kirkman explains, Cranston has always turned down the show saying he’s “too busy.” Kirkman added, “I believe him, but hopefully, at some point, he won’t be too busy.”
It is not known which role Bryan Cranston was offered
Kirkman did not reveal which role Cranston was offered, leaving it up to fans to speculate which one might be right for the actor. It’s not the only time recently that Cranston’s name has come up for a possible role in a comic book adaptation, as some fans have called for him to play Lex Luthor in a Superman film. He was previously in talks to play Mr. Sinister The Young Mutantsthough the casting didn’t work.
“I want to play an antagonist, a smarter part than the protagonist, never foolish enough to give the hero an easy win. That’s frustrating and boring to watch,” Cranston previously told Screen Geek about his rules for accepting a comic book adaptation role. “I think it’s a selfish point of view. I don’t want to do a character that’s been done a few times before. I don’t want to be compared.”
The second season of Invincible will premiere on Prime Video on November 3, 2023, though only the first four episodes will be released. More episodes will follow in 2024 when Season 2 resumes. Meanwhile, a brand new standalone episode focusing on Atom Eve was recently released on Prime Video and can be streamed now alongside the first season of Invincible.
