Retired footballer Brad KnightonHis family has suffered a tragic loss.
Daughter of former New England Revolution goalkeeper Olivia Knighton died at age 11 in a boating accident near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on July 19.
“There are no words to express the depth of our deep sorrow and regret at this time,” read a message posted on Brad’s Instagram on July 20. “Our family is still reeling from the sudden and tragic loss of our beautiful and brilliant daughter, Olivia, in an unfortunate boating accident yesterday. We are all still in disbelief that her bright and pure family was so far removed from us.
In addition to her father, who retired from professional football in January after 16 years, Olivia is survived by her mother. Britney Knightonand younger brothers, Owen Knighton9, and Brooks Knighton5.
“Olivia loved football and the Revolution with all her heart,” the message continued. “Our family has always felt your support behind us throughout my career. We will need you and your prayers with us now more than ever. We love you, Olivia. Brad, Britney, Owen and Brooks Knighton.”
